Cyclones Add Pair of Rookie Forwards

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, announced today that they have agreed to terms with forwards Ryan Harrison and Chris Zaires for the 2013-14 season.

Harrison, a 21-year-old Kelowna, British Columbia native, comes to Cincinnati after a five-year amateur career in the WHL. He collectively logged 325 games with the Price Albert Raiders, Medicine Hat Tigers, and, most recently, the Everett Silvertips. A year ago, the five-foot-ten-inch, 185-pound forward notched 32 points (10 goals, 22 assists) in 51 games with the Silvertips. In 2008-09, he helped the Canada Pacific Under 17 team to the Silver Medal at the World Hockey Challenge.

“Ryan brings a little bit of everything,” said Cyclones Head Coach Ben Simon. “He’s a versatile player and can provide some grit for us as well. He’s hungry and excited about the opportunity to come in and prove himself.”

Zaires, a 24-year-old, will begin his first full season as a professional with the Cyclones. Last spring, the Aberdeen, New Jersey native made his pro debut with the Trenton Titans after completing a four-year career at Brown University. During his collegiate days, Zaires amassed a total of 74 points (28 goals, 46 assists) in 127 games. During his senior campaign, he was named an Assistant Captain for the Bears.

“Chris is a very smart, well-rounded player,” said Simon. “He proved his leadership ability in college and got a little taste of the pro game last spring, which will definitely help ease his transition to the pro game. I know he is excited to have the opportunity to make in impact.”
