CYCLONES ADD OFFENSIVE THREAT IN DAY CHIEF

Forward Returns to North America Following Year Abroad

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud ECHL affiliate of the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Rochester Americans and the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Buffalo Sabres, have signed forward Winston Day Chief to a Standard Player Contract (SPC) for the 2017-18 season.

“Winston is a solid player that brings leadership and experience to our line up,” stated Cyclones Head Coach Matt Macdonald. “He has size and strength to go along with his offensive abilities, and he also has the ability to play in many different situations. We expect him to be a contributor this season both on and off the ice for our team."

A native of Standoff, AB, Day Chief appeared in 13 games for MAC Budapest of the Erste Liga last season, accounting for 16 points (5g, 11a) along with a plus-13 on-ice rating in that time.

The rest of his playing career has been spent with the Rapid City Rush, where he totaled 149 points (63g, 86a) in 202 career games for the Rush.  His best season offensively came in 2013-14 where he amassed 54 points (26g, 28a) in 58 games played, along with a plus-17 on-ice rating. Day Chief played a major leadership role with Rapid City, as well, serving as team captain in 2015-16 and assistant captain in 2014-15.

“I am extremely excited to be going to Cincinnati for the upcoming season,” said Day Chief. “I have heard nothing but good things about the fans, organization, and the city. The Cyclones have had great success in the past and I can’t wait to help continue that winning tradition.”

Prior to turning pro in 2012, Day Chief enjoyed a successful collegiate career between the University of Lethbridge and the University of Alaska-Anchorage. In 95 total games between the Horns and Seawolves, Day Chief totaled 68 points (27g,41a) along with 92 minutes in penalties. He played his junior hockey for the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) where he accounted for 117 points (51g, 66a) in 119 games from 2005-2007.
