CYCLONES GET BIG WIN IN HOME RETURN

Cincinnati Extends Winning Streak to Three Games

 

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones, (4-2-1-0) collected a 2-1 win over the Adirondack Thunder on Saturday night. Defensemen Chris Leone and Eric Knodel netted the goals for the Cyclones, who have won three in a row, and four of their last five.

Cincinnati jumped out to a 1-0 lead 12:00 into the opening period, when forward Shawn O’Donnell sent a pass to Leone and he hammered a shot that beat Thunder netminder Nic Riopel to put the Cyclones up, 1-0.

Cincinnati took their lead to the locker room after the first period, and in the second the Cyclones extended their advantage midway through the frame while on the power play, when Knodel took a pass from forward Jesse Schultz and he launched a one-timer past Riopel to extend Cincinnati’s advantage to 2-0 through 40 minutes.

The Thunder turned up the offensive pressure in the third, outshooting the Cyclones, 6-1, in the period. Adirondack managed to pull to within a goal of the Cyclones at 2-1, when forward Ty Loney lit the lamp on the power play. The Thunder received numerous scoring opportunities late in the period with the goaltender pulled, however Cincinnati goaltender Anthony Peters stopped Adirondack’s attack and preserved the Cyclones’ 2-1 win.

Adirondack outshot Cincinnati, 25-17 on the night, with Peters stopping 24 in the win. Cincinnati heads back on the road next Wednesday for the beginning of a three-game series with the Florida Everblades. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30pm ET.
