CYCLONES DON’T LOOK BACK, CRUISE TO FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN
Cyclones Take First of Two on the Weekend in Brampton
Brampton, ON-The Cincinnati Cyclones (12-5-1-0) picked up their fifth win in a row with a 4-2 decision over the Brampton Beast. Cyclones forwards Jesse Schultz, Justin Danforth, and Shawn O’Donnell, along with defenseman Chris Leone scored the goals for the ‘Clones.
The Cyclones wasted little time finding the back of the net in this one, as just 3:21 into the opening period O’Donnell forced a turnover in the offensive zone and sent a pass to Schultz who slid it past Brampton goaltender Zach Fucale, putting Cincinnati ahead, 1-0.
That 1-0 score held up throughout the remainder of the first, and in the second, the Beast turned up the pressure offensively and peppered Cyclones goaltender Jonas Johannsson with shots. Despite being outshot 14-6 in the frame, Cincinnati’s defense held strong and preserved the 1-0 Cyclone lead through two periods.
The Cyclones got some breathing room early in the third when Danforth came streaking down the right side, burned by a defender and tucked it in to put Cincinnati up, 2-0.
After the Beast pulled back to within a goal, 2-1, on a marker from forward Chris Leveille, Cincinnati went back up by two when O’Donnell took a shot on net, got his own rebound, and floated it in past Fucale to give the ‘Clones a 3-1 edge.
Brampton was not deterred and cut their deficit back to a goal when forward Stefan Fournier netted a goal on the power play at the 15:21 mark, trimming Cincinnati’s lead to 3-2.
The Cyclones sealed it with a little under two minutes to play when Leone launched a shot from the center redline and into the empty net to lift Cincinnati to a 4-2 win.
The Cyclones were outshot, 36-33 on the evening, with Johansson turning aside 34 for his third consecutive win. The Cyclones and Beast wrap up their two-game series on Sunday afternoon. Face-off is scheduled for 2:00pm ET.
