CYCLONES FALL ON LAST MINUTE TALLY

Cincinnati Engages in Physical, Penalty-Filled Affair

 

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (35-27-3-0) fell to the Atlanta Gladiators, 3-2, on Saturday night. Forwards Jesse Schultz and Daniel Muzito-Bagenda tallied the goals for the ‘Clones.

After Atlanta took a 1-0 lead on a goal from forward Darby Llewellyn, Cincinnati evened the game up with seven to play in the opening period when a point shot from defenseman Brock Beukeboom was deflected in by Schultz to even the game, 1-1, through 20 minutes. The first period was a penalty-filled affair, as the teams combined for 44 minutes in penalties, including a pair of fights.

In the second, Cincinnati’s power play came to life and gave the ‘Clones a 2-1 lead, when forward Mike Barrett sent a pass from behind the net to Muzito-Bagenda in the left circle, and he rifled in his 15th goal of the season. The Gladiators managed to pull back even with 1:25 to play in the period when Taylor Stefishen found the back of the net to tie the game, 2-2, after two periods.

The third saw the physicality ramp up again, as the teams combined for 37 minutes of penalties in the frame. Both teams traded quality scoring chances all throughout the frame, however Atlanta netted the go-ahead goal with 1:03 left in the frame from Derek Nesbit to take a 3-2 lead. The Cyclones continued to pressure in the final 1:03 with the goaltender pulled, however could not net the equalizer, and the Gladiators held on for the 3-2 win.

The Cyclones were outshot, 34-28 on the evening, with goaltender Jason Kasdorf stopping 31 in the loss. Cincinnati wraps up their seven-game-in-nine-day stretch on Saturday in Wheeling against the Nailers. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05pm ET.
