Jackals Sneak by Cyclones, 3-2

ELMIRA, New York – Eric Lampe had a goal and an assist for the Elmira Jackals (11-3-4-0) as they sneak past the Cincinnati Cyclones (7-6-5-1) by a 3-2 final score in front of 2,909 at First Arena on Saturday night.  It was Cincinnati’s first regulation loss since November 3.

Cincinnati was whistled for 13 minutes of penalties in the opening period, allowing Elmira to use the power play four times.  On their third man advantage of the frame, A.J. Perry blasted home his fifth of the season past Cyclones goalie Chet Pickard (L, 22 saves, 1-4-2-0) to give the Jackals a 1-0 lead – which they carried into the first intermission.

Scott Lehman provided the equalizer for the Cyclones at the 4:54 mark of the second period when he joined the play and wristed a laser past Elmira netminder Marco Cousineau (W, 32 saves, 7-2-4-0).  Unfortunately, the Jackals were able to regain their lead at the 11:57 mark when Andrew Sweetland banged home his team-leading ninth goal of the season to give Elmira a 2-1 lead.  Just 0:52 later, Eric Lampe came free along the goal line and tipped home a cross-ice pass for a 3-1 Jackals advantage.

Just 35 seconds into the third period, Barret Ehgoetz pulled his team within a goal when he tipped home a T.J. Fast slap shot to make it 3-2.  However, the Jackals defense played shutout hockey the rest of the way, thwarting Cincinnati’s comeback hopes in the final minutes to seal a 3-2 victory.
