THIRD PERIOD COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AS CYCLONES LOSE IN GREENVILLE

Budish Nets Two, While Downing Gets One with Under a Minute Left

Greenville, SC- The Cincinnati Cyclones (10-5-2-2) dropped a 4-3 decision to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on Thursday night. Forward Zach Budish scored a pair of goals, while forward Jack Downing netted one for the Cyclones

Greenville took a 1-0 lead after the first period, when defenseman Rob Kwiet beat Cyclones netminder Brandon Whitney from the high slot, with five minutes left in the opening frame. The Swamp Rabbits pushed their lead to 3-0 after the second, on an even strength goal from forward Ryan Rashid, and a power play marker from forward Scott Fleming.

The Cyclones’ offense came to life and started to mount a comeback in the third, as just 1:27 in, Budish crashed the net after a scramble out front, and stuffed it in, cutting Cincinnati’s deficit to 3-1.

Budish was not finished, as roughly three minutes later while on the power play, he took a feed from forward Andrew Yogan and blasted a shot past Greenville goaltender Jeff Malcolm, pulling the Cyclones to within a goal, 3-2.

After Greenville forward Henri Ikonen pushed the Swamp Rabbits to a 4-2 lead at the 15:08 mark, the Cyclones mounted a late charge, and with 28 seconds left and the goalie pulled, Downing blasted a one-timer from Yogan past Malcolm, bringing Cincinnati back to within a goal, 4-3.

The Cyclones tried for one last offensive push, however time ran out, and Greenville held on for a 4-3 win.

Cincinnati outshot Greenville, 28-27, while the power play converted on one of three opportunities. The two sides wrap up the season series tomorrow night in Greenville. Faceoff is slated for 7:00pm ET.
