CONWAY STRONG IN NET, HOWEVER CYCLONES FALL ON THE ROAD

Former Cyclone Pacan Records Hat Trick

North Charleston, SC- The Cincinnati Cyclones (14-11-2-2) fell to the South Carolina Stingrays, 4-1, on Saturday night. Forward Christiaan Minella scored the lone goal for the Cyclones in the game, while former Cyclones forward David Pacan netted a hat trick against his former team.

After Pacan put the Stingrays up, 1-0 after the first, the physicality picked up in the second, with both teams dishing out big hits. The Cyclones, who were outshot, 12-6 in the opening period, turned on the offensive pressure as well, getting a number of quality scoring chances, however they could not find the back of the net.

At the defensive end of the ice, Cyclones netminder Neil Conway was strong in goal, making a number of highlight reel saves in the second to preserve the Cyclones’ 1-0 deficit through 40 minutes.

It did not take long for the Cyclones to strike in the third, when Minella took a Branden Gracel pass over the South Carolina blue line and snapped a shot that deflected off of South Carolina goaltender Mark Dekanich’s glove and into the net, tying the game, 1-1.

The Stingrays answered right back roughly three minutes later, when Pacan added his second of the game to put the Rays up, 2-1. Pacan completed the hat trick while on the power play, at the 15:22 mark of the third, extending South Carolina’s lead to 3-1.

Conway continued to shine in the latter stages for Cincinnati, however with Conway pulled, South Carolina netted an empty netter from forward Brett Cameron with 1:01 remaining to seal the 4-1 win.

The Cyclones were outshot, 36-29 on the night, while the power play converted on one of its five chances. Conway was solid in net, stopping 32 in the loss. The two sides wrap up their season series tomorrow afternoon in Charleston. Faceoff is slated for 3:05pm.
