CYCLONES FALL IN SHOOTOUT IN PRESEASON FINALE

Cincinnati Opens Up Regular Season Next Saturday at Home

 

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones dropped a 3-2 shootout decision to the Wheeling Nailers on Saturday night. Forward Alex Roos and defenseman Arvin Atwal netted the goals for the Cyclones, while Atwal tallied the lone Cincinnati goal in the shootout. 

After the Nailers took a 1-0 on a power play goal from defenseman Josh Coutuirerat the 8:14 mark of the first, the Cyclones tied the game 38 seconds later when forward Dominic Zombo fired a shot oh a 2-on-1 rush that was kicked out right to Atwal who slammed in the rebound to tie the game, 1-1.

The 1-1 score held up throughout the remainder of the opening period, and in the second the Cyclones took a 2-1 lead when defenseman Devante Stephensfired a shot from the point that caromed off the end boards right to Roos, and he jammed it in just 1:35 into the frame.

Wheeling was not deterred and evened up the game late in the period when forward Mark Petacciocapitalized off a Cyclones turnover and scored to tie the game, 2-2, heading into the third. The teams remained tied throughout the remainder of the third and the entirety of overtime, forcing a shootout. In the skills competition, Wheeling received goals from forwards Eliot Grauerand Mike Fazioto push the Nailers to a 3-2 shootout win.

Cyclones goaltenders Jonas Johanssonand Michael Housercombined stop 23 in the loss, while Wheeling goaltenders Evan CowleyandMatt O’Connorcombined for 41 saves on 43 shots in the win.

Cincinnati begins the 2018-19 regular season on Saturday night against the Ft. Wayne Komets. Face-off is scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
