CYCLONES IMPRESS IN FRONT OF RECORD MATINEE CROWD

Cincinnati Records Highest Goal Total Since 2013

Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (8-3-2-0) shutout the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, 9-0, on Tuesday morning, in front of 12,346 school children for the Cyclones’ annual Field Trip Game. It marked Cincinnati’s highest goal total since a 9-4 road win against Evansville back in 2012-13. Forward Alex Wideman led the way with a pair of goals and three assists, while forward Myles Powell chipped in a pair of goals and an assist. Defensemen Eric Knodel and Devante Stephens, along with forwards Vas GlotovShaw Boomhower, and Mike Marnell each added lone markers, with Marnell also dishing out three assists for a four-point afternoon.

The Cyclones wasted little time finding the back of the net in this one, as jut 4:07 into the opening period while on the power play, Powell received a pass at the left circle, and hammered in his fourth goal in the last three games to put the Cyclones ahead, 1-0. That lead became 2-0 roughly 10 minutes later, when Glotov came racing down the left side, turned the corner on a defender, and slid a shot through the legs of Greenville goaltender Garrett Bartus for his third goal of the season.

Cincinnati capped off the period at the 15:53 mark when Wideman took a back-door pass from Marnell on a 2-on-1 rush, and he slammed it in to put the ‘Clones up, 3-0, after 20 minutes.

Cincinnati continued their forward motion 2:23 into the second when forward Pascal Aquin sent a pass from the left circle to Marnell who was crashing the net, and he chipped the puck in to push the Cyclones to a 4-0 lead. Just 47 seconds later, Cincinnati lit the lamp once more when Powell threw a pass from behind the net to Wideman in front, and he jammed it in for his second of the game to give the Cyclones a 5-0 edge, chasing Bartus from the game.

The ‘Clones were not done, and with 4:06 to play in the second, Knodel took a pass from Marnell at the top of the left circle, and he wristed a shot in past new Swamp Rabbits goaltender Devin Buffalo to extend the Cincinnati lead to 6-0. The Cyclones tacked on one more before the intermission, when a point shot from defenseman Mitch Jones was stopped by Buffalo, however Boomhower was in front to slam in the rebound to propel Cincinnati to a 7-0 lead after the second period.

In the third, Powell continued his hot streak and gave Cincinnati an 8-0 lead when he took a centering feed from Wideman from behind the net and potted his second of the game, 9:11 into the frame. The ‘Clones wrapped up their monster night with 1:14 remaining when Stephens snapped in his second of the season from the left side to finish off Cincinnati’s 9-0 win.

Cincinnati outshot the Swamp Rabbits, 25-23, on the day, with goaltender Jonas Johansson stopping all 23 he faced in the win. The Cyclones welcome in the Ft. Wayne Komets on Friday night, with the face-off scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
